The Longship carries a cargo of carefully selected craft and design from the Orkney Islands, in the far north of Scotland. From our 19th century shop opposite St Magnus Cathedral - home to our family business for over 160 years - we send goods off all around the world. Orkney excels in jewellery, knitwear and ceramics, and is home to many fine artists. We love sharing the work of our friends and neighbours with appreciative buyers hundreds or even thousands of miles away.
We also love seeking out beautifully-designed, well-made products from across Scotland and further afield, and bringing them home to Orkney. Owner Ingrid's background as a textile designer, creating fabrics for many famous names - from Paul Smith to Comme des Garçons to Givenchy and Christian Dior - has developed exceptional contacts in the fashion world, but also a sharp eye for up-and-coming talent.
Every piece on our shelves is personally selected, because it means something to us. Before long it becomes part of our family business's long, unfolding story. We'd love to share our story with you - if you choose to make one of our pieces your own, then that is a very happy ending.Read less
