Silver arrow in miniature
In 1934, the International Board of Motor Sport established a maximum weight limit for the 750 kg Grand Prix cars, excluding tires and fuel.
The Germans decided to reduce the weight by eliminating the lead paint that indicated the traditional white livery of their cars, with a showy shiny aluminum.
The victory of one of these cars led to the nickname of the arrow of silver.
Their successors, built on the same chassis, continued to successfully run the Indy 500 after the war.
