This basket made from water hyacinth is produced by women in and around Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Using traditional skills, they weave the dried stems of the water hyacinth by hand. The producer allows the women to work either at home or in the workshop, which means they have enough time for their families. This product is the result of their work and the collaboration with designer Toya Verberne.

The weaving of the dried stems keeps a traditional skill alive. In addition, it provides a fixed income for many women, which means they can support themselves. In collaboration with Plan International Nederland, part of the profit is spent on vocational training, mostly for young women, in developing countries. A beautiful product for you, a better life for them.
