The Beni Ouarain rug is probably the best known of the Berber rugs. It is characterized by its thick wool in ecru tones and its geometric diamond-shaped patterns, often black or brown. However, they are now found with vivid color patterns. Originally, the Beni Ouarain rug is also characterized by its very large size. Indeed, the Beni Ouarain tribe came from the Middle Atlas, so it is subjected to a harsh climate. So the carpets were used as mattresses and blankets, and we would roll in to sleep and protect ourselves from the cold.
The Berber carpet Beni Ouarain is handmade on a loom. The wool threads are tied one after the other, which requires a very long realization time, which can range from several days to several months depending on its size.
