The Garden - Toby Musgrave

I kept seeing the cover of this book in book trade publications and thinking that it was a temporary cover image. When the book was finally in my hands it finally clicked and I was able to identify the very garden that it was a picture of: Bryans Ground in Herefordshire. The image on the back is also identifiable once you get your eye in to reading these images, as the garden at Hauser & Wirth in Somerset.

Toby Musgrave is an authority on garden history and his previous books have included heritage fruit and vegetables, plant hunters and a biography of Sir Joseph Banks. This book gives prominence to the excellent photography which accompanies short texts on particular garden styles or features from carpet bedding and water cascades to the Islamic garden, the meadow and gardens in quarries.

A great coffee table book for an impromptu but satisfying dip into, alighting on a new style or aspect of gardens at each page you open.

Hardback. 303 pages.
