The Great Survivor of the Tudor Age: The Life and Times of Lord William Paget - Alex Anglesey
Lord William Paget was a major character in the Tudor court. His arrival in this milieu came almost from nowhere and he became one of Henry VIII's most powerful 'new men'. He had the king's ear in the monarch's later life and was instrumental in enabling Lord Somerset to become Lord Protector in the reiogn of Edward VI.
When Somerset fell, so too did Paget, but Paget survived and regained power, keeping in with the Protestant princess Elizabeth while also having access to the Catholic queen Mary.
William was the founder of the aristocratic Paget family who also became the Barons of Beaudesart, Earls of Uxbridge and Marquesses of Anglesey (quite a roll call!). This book is written by the current Marquess using previously unexamined family letters. He himself describes it as a lockdown project, and beyond the biography of William Paget he also gives a succing rundown of the rest of his family history.
