Nursery rhymes have been spoken and sung for centuries in houses across the land. They are some of our first exposure to poetry and language and can often be recalled long after we think we have forgotten them. Before the age of the printing press they carried the rhythm of speech and carried vernacular histories and traditions.
This book is a celebration of that linguistic tradition and each nursery rhyme is illustrated with Jackie Morris's distinctive style sometimes combining elements of 2 or more nursery rhymes in each illustration. There are 40 nursery rhymes in the books some of them better known than others.
In her introduction Morris writes that he hopes that the "book will become a treasured part of childhood , keeping the memory of these rhymes alive for future generations."
