The mandragora is one of the best documented gynecological plants. It is also the only plant in the European context that has historically been represented as a half human creature, half a plant. The mandragora was, is and continues to be haunted by stories. Could your many stories contain a key to separating our paths of roads that have already been traveled? And if the mandragora houses the potential of new orders and the creation of worlds; of a cosmopoiesis of mandragoras?
Three Becomes Two Becomes One Becomes None explores the medicinal and magical plant of the mandragora and the many stories that grew around them throughout history. The writing of the artist Leonie Brandner moves from the beginning of the narrative registered to the ancient Egyptian and Greek mythology, tracing the lines that the mandragora has left behind in the medical books, folklore and, finally, the impact that the Plant in the hunting of the so -called witches in the Middle Ages. Gently interwoven his own perception and encounters with the plant through his rigorous historical research, Leonie Brandner creates a kaleidoscopic image of the imagination of humans and plants over time.
