NOMAS magazine looks at people and places with the curiosity, joy and longing of a nomad, the desire to belong, even for a time, to another culture. Each issue explores a different destination or theme. The magazine is the meeting point for photographers, artists, writers and creative travelers who share the same passion for experiencing and documenting travel stories about the invisible and the untold.
On this occasion, NOMAS Magazine traveled to the largest metropolis in the world, to the country of the rising sun and cherry blossoms. Its editors analyzed the five different elements of Japanese cuisine, fell in love with the fabrics and shapes of Yohji Yamamoto, were inspired by the ethereal figures of haute couture star Yuima Nakazato, as well as the subversive perspective of Jun Takahashi. They related wabi-sabi to haiku. They benefited from the wisdom of architect Kengo Kuma and beloved author Yoko Ogawa. They took the train from Tokyo to Kyoto, exploring ancient temples and the slow rhythms of old Japan. They crossed the island of Shikoku on foot, found themselves in the city of Tono and heard ghost stories. But above all, they tried to capture something of the soul of Japan through their lens and their senses. In collaboration with renowned photographers and journalists from around the world, NOMAS JAPAN embodies the poetic essence of Tanizaki, the mysterious gaze of a geisha, the majesty of snow-covered Mount Fuji and the kindness of its inhabitants. With a different paper that subtly conveys different emotions and a new and inspired design, the new edition contains something of the pulse of this strange and very different country, acquiring collector's value for its readers.
