There has been much written about McAnulty's autism but that is something of a misleading directive. His book is a remarkable diary of nature regardless of the condition that he has. He described the natural world that he encounters with a sense of awe and wonder but also with warmth and a great style of writing. His enthusiasm for nature is infectious.
Divided into seasons the book starts with spring and ends in winter. The sightings of red kites, hen harriers and Irish hares are interspersed with his telling of his life as an environmental activist and the Extinction Rebellion movement.
