Designed for Swedish glassworks Kosta Boda by Sweden's most internationally celebrated glass artist Bertil Vallien, Drifter is the latest work in a series of boat-themed sculptures to come from the artist. In an expression of simplicity and space, the piece involves a copper-coloured figure floating within the solid glass boat in which there is no embellishment other than a simple black and white spiral, a symbolic feature to which Vallien frequently turns. Drifter is hand-signed "Artist Collection 2020".

This free-standing glass sculpture has a base that allowing it to stand firmly without additional support.

"I love to work with a theme. Glass offers possibilities that no other material can. It’s like the outpouring from a volcano where the glowing mass is rapidly transformed into ice. The challenge is to capture the look and the light at just the right moment to allow the glass to reveal its secrets.”
