About Kawauchi Slippers
Kahoku in Yamagata, north Japan, has long been a centre of Japanese footwear. Waraji, zōri, tabi… all had their market share eroded eventually by shoes and socks. Inside the home however, Japanese feet can return to their roots. That was the concept of slipper pioneer Hideo Kawauchi, who founded his company Kawauchi Slippers in 1955\. In his late 90s, Kawauchi is still at the head of the company today, and his small team sew together a superior range of traditionally inspired footwear for the home. These include zōri style slippers, which allow you walk on piled loops of washi paper, or tatami mat bases. They are products of specialism, tradition, and dedication over a lifetime.
