Made by mixing salt produced in Futamiura, Ise City with Haze wax. The name “Iwata” is the salt that is dedicated to the Ise Grand Shrine, and is made from the seawater only during the rising tide of the full moon. The High tide occurs when the gravitational pull of the moon exerts its force on the earth's oceans. Since ancient times in Japan, there has been an idea that the ebb and flow of the tide has a relationship with the life and death of a person, and we are particular about the ebb tide, which is full of vitality. It is a Japanese candle with a wish to purify the spring tide mixed with Haze wax.Since ancient times Japanese have used salt for purification. They are still used in Shinto rituals including sumo tournaments to purify the sumo ring. Salt is also sprinkled for a “Ground breaking ceremony” (jichinsai) before building a house. The ceremony is performed by Shinto priests appeasing the God of Earth. Once the house is built, salt is also sprinkled in front of the house to keep evil spirits away. It has been believed that the piled salt in a small dish placed by the front door works for purification of the premises and warding off evil spirits. Nowadays morishio is placed in front of many shops and restaurants as a wish for success at the time of opening of business.
* Salt from the sea helps remove bad energy
* Purify with the piled salt and invite good luck
* Make up for the missing parts of the place and create new power
In Japanese culture we find the “transience” of a candle that will eventually disappear is beautiful. The beauty of Warosoku's flame is that it has the same transience and integrity as cherry blossoms. People are moved when they discover the beauty of transience and integrity.
