Obama is a town in Fukui in Japan. Briefly well known for its famous namesake, its enduring fame is as a centre for chopstick production.
These are by Matsukan, one of the town’s leading makers. Founded in 1922, its expertise is deep in chopsticks made from natural materials, and with varied design.
Made from wood, they are carved into a hexagonal shape at the base, with colour faces in green, purple, and natural wood.
