The Chiffon Trenches - André Leon Talley

André Leon Talley was an integral member of the team at Anna Wintour's American Vogue and held the title of Editor-at-large from 1998 until 2013. Before his work in magazines he worked at Warhol's Factory in New York and then at Interview Magazine.

Talley is in many ways an unusual figure in the fashion world; arguably up to the appointment of Edward Enninful at British Vogue he was the the only person of colour in the upper echelons of fashion journalism. In his book he says that he didn't realise the responsibilities that came with this position at the time but is now telling the story of how "a black man survived and thrived in the chiffon trenches."

Much of the delight in this book has been Talley's revelations about working with the notoriously demanding Wintour and how he fell from favour but his book is more than an opportunity to tell that story, it is an inside view of the world of fashion journalism.

Hardback. 286 pages.
