A new addition to the flensted mobile collection for 2019, waves 5 clearly takes its inspiration from the sea. The hand-folded white origami-style shapes are reminiscent of crisp white shells, white crested waves, ridges in the sand or shapely sea horses. A bit like placing a shell close to your ear and hearing the sound of the ocean, when you lie back and gaze at a wave mobile, your senses are awakened and your imagination takes you straight to the shapes and images of the sea.
At the scandinavian shop, we love to celebrate iconic nordic brands and those traditional crafts which have made a successful transition into the modern world. Flensted mobile is a perfect example of such a brand. Although the craft of making mobiles is very much a danish tradition, the decorative style we see today was born out of an original design made by christian and grethe flensted for their first child in 1953. Their design was hugely popular and eventually grew into a full-time occupation for the couple who then devoted their entire life to the creation and production of flensted mobiles which have since found worldwide appeal. Still very much a family business, new and original designs continue to join a fantastic collection which ranges from modern abstract designs and special commissions for museums all over the world to the simple and colourful mobiles which have become such popular and much-treasured gifts for children
