This small handwoven storage basket is the perfect way to keep knick knacks neat and tidy. Handwoven in Senegal using a traditional coil weaving technique from cattail stalks and thin strips of coloured, salvaged plastic.
A network of over 100 rural Wolof women in 11 Senegalese villages are working together to create these beautiful handcrafted baskets. Using locally harvested cattail stalks (a type of local grass) and strips of colourful, salvaged plastic, the women bring supplemental income to their households by coil weaving baskets between their daily duties.
