DESCRIPTION:
This Japanese woodblock print was made by Utagawa Hiroshige. It belongs to his renowned One Hundred Famous Views of Edo (Tokyo) series.
The series showed the sights of Edo through the changing seasons.
This particular print, the No. 48, represents Tango No Sekku or Children's Day, a festival in Japan on May 5th when parents of boys would unroll carp-shaped flags, or koinobori, as an sign of hope that their sons will grow up in good health.
