Helios was depicted as a beautiful god, crowned with sunbeams. It crossed the sky every day, leading towards the ocean that surrounds the Earth, and returned to the start every night through the East. Ra was the god representing the brightest midday sun. In the early days, he was the most important figure in the Underworld, where he was said to travel every evening as Auf-Ra, the setting sun.
