Written with Guardian journalist Alexis Petridis but still with Elton's voice bouncing off the page the book is searingly honest and reveals the story of his childhood growing up in Pinner and the development of a shy boy with dreams of pop stardom.
This is an intimate look at his life from the ups to the downs and from his megalomania to his life as a husband (twice) and father.
If you ever saw the documentary Tantrums and Tiaras you can sense the same person in this book; contradictory but honest.
