The actor David Harewood descended into psychosis at the age of twenty-three; a psychosis that led to him being sectioned under the Mental Health Act. In this book he writes of his experiences of being in the mental health system and his recovery. He writes of his devastating family history and the impact of racism on Black mental health.
He investigates how he managed to recover and become a successful actor and how growing up Black and British contributed to a rupture of his sense of place in the world. His book serves as a rallying cry to examine the systems and biases that continue to shape our society.
