Following her previous book One More Croissant for the Road – a cycle trip that was more of a point-to-point trip around French bakeries – she travels the length and breadth of the UK in this book uncovering an obsession with breakfast. Her Guardian series aims to establish a perfect recipe for dishes (moussaka, chocolate mousse etc) by comparing the recipes of other writers and chefs against one another. Here she tries to uncover what makes the perfect fry-up; but also those other alternatives to this, be it a Staffordshire oatcake or a Greggs Geordie stottie cake.
