There should, of course, be no doubt that Miriam Margolyes can tell a good story. Her appearances on Graham Norton's chat show should leave no doubt as to this and . . . she proves as much in her autobiography. She writes 'I have no secrets. I decided early on in life that the strongest position was to be completely open.'

And so through the pages of this book we learn of how she came to be known as the naughtiest girl ever to be educated at Oxford High School; how, as a teenager, she ended up posing nude for Augustus John, and how she reacted to a personal question posed by Warren Beatty.

The cast of characters that inhabits her book stretches beyond her parents to include Martin Scorsese, Barbra Streisand and Leonardo DiCaprio. She is riotously funny but also warm, self-critical and honest and this combination leads to an excellent account of her life.
