Vintage Maselo wall baskets are testament to the weaving skills of the people of Zambia. The makenge tree roots have fine hairs and they are dug from the ground and thinned out to be used for weaving. The roots are boiled and dyed with natural pigments and left to dry out. It takes several weeks to make each of these very unique baskets. They re-use plastic strips to create the colour patterns you see and is commonly used as a way to repair old baskets too.
