While Tom Bullough's book Sarn Helen is about a Roman road that winds its way through Wales, Christopher Hadley's book concentrates on the roads that the Romans built throughout England and Wales. The routes that Roman roads took across the country are multiple; some of them well known (The Fosse Way, Watling Street) others more disguised and therefore lesser known. The roads were of course a way for the Roman's to dominate the land that they were conquering and to aid their search for mineral wealth and land.
Hadley's book takes us on a lyrical journey into this past, retracing and searching for an elusive Roman road that sprang from one of the busiest road hubs in Roman Britain.
