The Book of Wildflowers - Angie Lewin & Christopher Stocks
There are 62 Angie Lewin illustrations in this book, drawn from historical works that she has made - the earliest dating back to 2003 - to pieces that were made just last year. This goes to show Angie's long standing interest in the wild flowers of the British landscape.
Christopher Stocks has written the accompanying texts which are short essays on individual plants from dandelion to teasel.
Both Stocks and Lewin write separate introductory pieces about their relationship with teh subject matter. In Lewin's she notes "These long-familiar plants anchor me in the landscape, evoking specific places. I regularly visit wild, timeless, often exposed environments where seemingly insignificant plants are integral to the character of the place." Stock's says that "My parents first taught me how to look closely at the natural world. When I was a boy growing up in Yorkshire, local farmers were still grubbing up hedgerows . . . but even then there were overlooked corners of common or woodland, where orchids and wild daffodils can be found."
