Victoria Moore is a journalist who writes on food, drink and small and is the author of both The Wine Dictionary  and The Wine Dine Dictionary. This book is a condensed version of that second title; at its core is an A-Z of foods, and dining moments, with suggestions as to what grape is best suited.

For mushroom risotto she suggests matching the heaviness of the risotto with the heaviness of the wine, for instance a South African pinot  rather than a light French pinot wine to go with a beef stock fed risotto. To match with samphire she suggests a Vinho Verde or a Douro white or Muscadet.

There is also a section which gives portraits of 12 of the best known wines and also section at the back with quick pairings where she suggests amongst other ideas chardonnay with roast pork and fish and sweet riesling with tarte tatin.
