A Table for Friends - Skye McAlpine

This recipe book from Skye McAlpine is in the same vein as Margot Henderson's excellent book You're All Invited, in both they emphasise the recipes and necessary skills for cooking for other people. While lots of these recipes are perfectly suited to the anti-social cook (Hi!), even I understand the pleasure of cooking for and feeding others.

McAlpine lives in Venice so lots of the recipes have Italian origins. Before she gets down to the nitty gritty of recipes she has useful tips about planning a menu and taking the stress out of the preparation; planning to cook the right food for both your guests and also the conditions in which you are cooking, and also gives you free rein to not have 3 courses, to ditch the starter for a bowl of crisps and to leave the washing up to the following morning.

Among the scaleable recipes for feeding different numbers of people are new potatoes with lemon and samphire, saffron fennel, braised lentils with pancetta and apple and walnut crumble pie.
