Spectrum: Heritage Pattern & Colours
This book is an exploration of the colour palettes used in furnishing fabrics and wallpapers from the 15th century to the present day and it used the extensive archives held by the Victoria and Albert Museum to do this.
In her introduction Ros Byam Shaw says that the examples that have been chosen for these books are "like cherries picked from a huge bowl of delicious fruit." The examples are arranged in chronological order, the earliest being a detail taken from an embroidery made in 1400-30. The last example is a wallpaper design by Brilliant Me in 2009. There are some recognisable names attached to some of the designs: Celia Birtwell, Duncan Grant and William Morris.
