Laurence Ward Bomb Damage Maps: 1939-1945

This collection of maps is the faithful reproduction of the London County Council maps produced through the second world war giving detailed information about the extent of the damage caused by the German air raids on London. The maps were hand coloured to document the level of damage across the city, the impact of which can still be seen in the capital's urban and social landscapes.

The publication of these maps in 2015 by Thames & Hudson is the first time that they had been made available for a general audience - the originals are housed by the National Archive. As well as the maps - which have a key to help you find a particular are of the city or the detail about what sorts of bombs were dropped in specific locations - there is a history of the maps and the recording of the ruin, and a chronological time line of the damage.

A fascinating book for anyone who has lived in London or has an interest in it - it explains much of the contemporary landscape.
