The Plant Hunter's Atlas - Ambra Edwards

This book tells the stories of how plants travelled across the world - from the Pharaohs right up to the 21st century seed-banks and the many new and endangered species named every year. It introduces some of the characters - researchers, adventurers and physicians - who have been involved through history in collecting plants. Those plants have formed key roles in shaping empires, built (and destroyed) economies, revolutionised medicine and advanced our understanding of science.

The illustrations in the book are drawn from the archives of the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew.

Among the plants that are listed and investigated in the book are the Giant Redwood, Tea, Coffee the Wollemi pine and bougainvillea.
