The movement is the basis of all the lamps from Scotland, including the mantis BS2. As an artist, as an engineer and especially as a craftsman, Scotland has developed a sophisticated system that allows the lights to be turned and the inclination of the arm to be adjusted by re-positioning the counterweight. The function of the height adjustable and rotating reflector screen made of aluminum is remarkable. His sweeping lines in the field of tension hiss symmetry and asymmetry combined with a graceful frame he gives light a weightless grace. De lampe is in a field of tension of balance and is the testimony of the special skills of a metal worker. With the BS2, Scotland has created an object whose delicacy and elegance delight.
Designer, Scotland was born in main in 1924 and moved to England in 1939. After serving the British army in India, he learned to weld and took a course in sculpture at the Leeds college of art and subsequently with the help of a scholarship at the Angelo-french arts center in St. Johns Wood. As an admirer of Alexander Calder's work, BS developed a series of iconic luminaries called mantis in his studio for lighting and sculpting in 1951 after completing his sculpture studies. As a result, his work deals with the search for new forms. All works were handcrafted in limited series.
