Nearly 15 years ago, Rachel Cooke started writing a monthly column for the Observer on cooking and eating. This book is a collection of fifty of her best pieces.
In its pages she chronicles a time of huge change in our national relationship with food: TV cooks, viral recipes circulated via TikTok, the home delivery phenomenon (still to arrive in South Shropshire!) and how we cooked and ate during the pandemic.
She recalls her own childhood in Sheffield, the years she spent interviewing top chefs and how she learnt to cook and shop well herself. There are also a few fail-safe recipes and clever tips.
