Once an important castle town, it is known today for its wooded, sedate and artistic style of life, and its fine tradition of furniture. Founded by a local artist, Shin Kogei’s shop stocking its handmade products, is a connecting factor to the past - and stands at the heart of Hida-Takayama’s cultural identity today.
