This book opens the doors to Los Angeles houses of the architect Thomas Proctor. Admired for his knowledge of classical architecture, Proctor has been respected for a long time for his devotion to the creation of houses that are both ingenious and poetic, conceived with imagination and beautifully designed and detailed. Through his work, he seeks inspiration in the past, designing houses that have their roots both in the broader classical tradition and in the specific and particular architectural traditions of California.
The introduction presents the personal architectural history of Proctor and his design philosophy along with images that present the sources of his inspiration. This is followed by a chapter that shows architectural vignettes, details and ornaments that illustrate the understanding of classicism proter and how it inspires its creation of architecture that is both old and new.
