The Bilancia calendar is a calendar designed by Enzo Mari and produced by Danese Milano that has become an icon. It is a perpetual wooden calendar that creates a relationship between the user and the object. The Bilancia calendar is made up of four horizontal strips of different types of wood. Each moving strip has a different print, showing the days of the week, the months and the date, while a central pivot frames the correct combination. Since the user needs to change the calendar every morning by sliding the wooden strips, this ritual puts the focus on the passage of time. Perfectly balanced, the wall calendar reimagines the classic game of scales as a design that measures time and places past, present and future on the same multi-layered plane.
