The twining method is used to create these African baskets: a process performed with two woollen elements bound around a central ‘stake’ of robust sisal grass. The jumpers are purchased from second hand clothes markets, taken home and washed, and unravelled into balls of separate colours which are kept in plastic bags. Each woven basket takes up to four days to complete. To own one of our woollen baskets is to support the lost art of kiondo weaving and to become an important part of our journey. Ours is a tale of sustainability and craftsmanship, and we are proud to support the weavers in a truly fair trade, providing a reliable and flexible source of income for farming communities whose primary income can be unpredictable. Each ethical basket is supplied with a little information about the weaving cooperative. Brought to you by weavers of the Kamba tribe in Eastern Kenya, KOROGA is a real one-off, since each of our Nifty Knits is woven out of the yarn from recycled jumpers to the design and colour choices of the weaver. Bring a pop of Kenyan colour to any corner of the home with its bands of red and green. This striped basket is ideal for storing toys, kindling or bathroom supplies, and also makes a fabulous laundry basket or large planter. Known officially as Kiondos (kee-yon/-doh) and woven in rural Kenyan communities, these geometric baskets were originally made by mothers as practical and colourful wedding gifts for their daughters. Traditional kiondo weaving is experiencing a revival at the moment thanks to a new rise in demand. **Material:** SISAL & RECYCLED WOOL (NATURAL & SYNTHETIC) **Dimensions**
