From the Renaissance, puppets accompanied street vendors to attract customers and in the 17th century became the main conservatory of comic characters. The puppet theater was refused entry to the royal theaters in France, which resulted in the creation of shows on the Parisian boulevards. Guignol was created at the beginning of the 19th century in Lyon.
