Kähler Urbania Tea Light House, Functio
The Curious One belongs to the series Character, a set of five unglazed ceramic sculptures designed for Danish brand Kähler in collaboration with the Danish sculptor Malene Bjelke. Reflecting the rich diversity of personalities which make us who we are, the simple, timeless figures celebrate both the individual traits and shared characteristics of people throughout life, making them relevant and personal gifts at special times and milestones. The Curious One, a small crouching figure with a fixed gaze at the ground acts as a reminder always to keep curiosity at the forefront of one's endeavours throughout life.
As a graduate of the Danish Design School in 1993, Bjelke has since combined her work as a sculptor with a 20 year career in theatre and costumes. Her work reflects a preoccupation with the human mind and the interaction between it and the space in which we inhabit.
The story of Kähler begins as early as 1839, when the Dutch potter Herman J. Kähler opens a small ceramics workshop in Næstved and turns the first Kähler vase. It marks the start of a unique design adventure that will one day resonate around the world. However, it is only when his son Herman A. Kähler takes over the famous workshop in 1875 that the ceramic adventure really begins.
