This artwork is taken from Renard's book of Fantastical Fish, earning this title due to Renard's vivid imagination that would see him paint fish in fantasy like appearances and even having a mermaid feature in his studies. This did not discredit his work however, with his studies being recognised as an important first glimpse into the history of aquatic studies.
